Welcome our global distributor #1 : Haruko MINAMI, Advisor

In my second article “A gateway to the meeting with Founder & President of Sonora Technology : Haruko MINAMI, Advisor” », I introduced Mr.C’s following comment :

“But I think it could be a chance to break through the current situation where we receive enquiries from all over the world but have to turn them down because we don’t have people who can speak foreign languages, and where we may be missing out on opportunities to win projects.”

To be honest, in the last few years since I was appointed as an advisor, Sonora has received countless inquiries from all over the world. Of course, not all enquiries led to business, but so far the only way I can think of to reach Sonora, which does not have sales representatives abroad, is through the website “Soundproof Chamber of Sonora Technology”. I’m really impressed that the strength of Sonora’s brand cannot be described only in terms of “Made in Japan”.

Then, sometime around June 2023, Sonora got a request for a quote coming in from a company called DMC, headquartered in Canada, via the enquiry form on Sonora’s website “Contact Us”, since DMC’s client wanted to procure an anechoic chamber.

The term “anechoic chamber” here refers to an acoustic anechoic chamber for measuring acoustic performance. Meanwhile, DMC is a manufacturer of EMC (Electromagnetic Anechoic Chamber) for measuring the radio wave environment.

As explained in the second article “A gateway to the meeting with Founder & President of Sonora Technology : Haruko MINAMI, Advisor” », both are written in English as “Anechoic Chamber”,  which sometimes cause confusion. Due to that, there would be a possible risk that an acoustic anechoic chamber manufacturer receives an order for an electromagnetic anechoic chamber by the client.

One of the DMC’s clients, who has already purchased an EMC, has asked for an acoustic anechoic chamber as well. Then Sonora was found by them searching for among only a limited number of those manufacturers all over the world.

The client may have thought that if they had the technology to make an electromagnetic anechoic chamber, they could probably make an acoustic anechoic chamber as well, as long as both are called as the same term “anechoic chamber”.

However, sound waves and radio waves are totally different. There is a significant gap between the technologies of each anechoic chamber.

On the other hand, developing electronic products requires both measurements.
When you visit a large factory, you may find an electromagnetic anechoic chamber built next to an acoustic anechoic chamber. Some clients may see this and misunderstand that both can be built using similar technology.

The combination of Sonora’s attractive technical capabilities for DMC, not having the technology to manufacture acoustic anechoic chambers, and Sonora’s strong intention to develop overseas business including North America, motivated both of us to sign off an MOU in October 2023.
