ISO 20908:2023 – Tyre sound emission test

ISO 20908:2023 – tyre sound emission test was published in 2023 as a method of indoor noise testing.

ISO 13325, a method of outdoor measurement of tyre-to-road sound emission, has been existing as standard, however, this ISO 20908:2023 would be probably the first edition as an indoor measurement standard in ISO.

As like ISO 362-1,2 and ISO 362-3, which are standards for measurement of noise emitted by accelerating road vehicles, this standard was to be enacted in order to conduct the conventional outdoor test also to be able to apply for the indoor testing.

The publishment of this standard enables to conduct very efficient testing, whereas outdoor testing could only be conducted at very limited times quite depending on weather conditions and other factors. On the other hand, the construction of indoor test facilities requires various kinds of equipment such as drums, semi-anechoic chambers, and conditions such as temperature control, as well as the processing of the essential characteristics of a test track surface intended to be used for measuring rolling sound emission of vehicles and their tyres, as defined in the ISO 10844.
