Acoustic Source Visualization System by Nihon Onkyo Engineering (NOE)
We recently had the opportunity to visit Nihon Onkyo Engineering Co., Ltd. (NOE) and receive a live demonstration of their acoustic source visualization system, SoundGraphy.
Impressively Intuitive “Sound Visualization”
SoundGraphy consists of a compact 100-mm, 200-g spherical sensor paired with a tablet, enabling users to instantly visualize where noise is generated even in complex acoustic environments.
We were particularly impressed by:
- The immediate hotspot visualization simply by pointing the sensor
- Excellent portability with wireless connection and battery operation
- A clean, user-friendly interface that anyone can operate without training
The system is clearly designed with real-world usability in mind.

Ready for Immediate Use in the Field
During the demonstration, SoundGraphy quickly identified noise sources from machinery and ventilation components, showing its strong capability as a first-response diagnostic tool for noise investigations.
Its ability to run on AA batteries or a mobile power bank allows measurement without any cables or power outlets, making it highly effective in factories, research facilities, or general indoor environments.
Sonora’s Perspective: A Highly Effective Support Tool
Although SoundGraphy is not intended for ISO-compliant quantitative noise measurements, it excels at locating where countermeasures should be applied.
It is particularly useful for:
- Identifying potential leakage points in soundproof rooms
- Locating dominant noise sources in equipment
- Visualizing before/after conditions for customer reports
We see strong compatibility between SoundGraphy and our acoustic measurement and noise-control workflow.
NOE’s Technical Expertise and User-Focused Design
The demonstration clearly reflected NOE’s commitment to creating acoustic tools that truly work in real field conditions.
The compact hardware, wireless design, and refined interface demonstrate careful attention to usability and engineering quality. We were genuinely impressed by the thoughtful design philosophy behind the product.
Conclusion
SoundGraphy is an excellent system for intuitive acoustic visualization and can greatly support our work in initial noise diagnosis, customer communication, and identifying problem areas.
We sincerely appreciate NOE for providing us with this valuable demonstration opportunity.
